- Weekend Warriors
ROUND 1 of 2017
4pm Feb 26th @ KC's Rockshop Jam Day
2pm April 2nd @ Sooki Lounge - Belgrave
We're happy to announce that we have a new coach for our next round. We will be kicking off a round in October featuring ARIA Hall of Famer Bob Spencer. Bob's played in iconic Australian bands "The Angels" and "Skyhooks" and it is a welcome return to WW mentoring having run the program previously at other venues.
The jam day is your introduction to the program, all you need to do is play one or two songs. Bob has nominated Knockin On Heavens Door (key of G) and Mustang Sally (key of C). Bob works out who the best people are to put you in a band with are, and this is where it all begins. The Jam is at KC's Rockshop.
Sooki Lounge in Belgrave is our new home for the Weekend Warrior Big Gig. After your 4 weeks of rehearsals you will invite all your friends and family to watch your new band play at a premiere venue that has hosted some of the countries biggest acts.
What is Weekend Warriors?
WW is a concept designed to get you playing your instrument in a band with professional mentorship from a rock legend, no matter what your playing ability is.
Who can join?
Anyone who plays an instrument and is over 18 is welcome to take part in the program, you don't even need to own any gear.
What does the program include?
When we launch a round it starts with a free Jam. Everyone is invited to come along and have a play. Our coach will evaluate everyone's ability and musical taste and if you choose to continue with the program we will place you in a band.
You will have your first band meeting at our store, and be introduced to your other band members. You will then have 4 weeks of rehearsals under the mentorship of Bob Spencer.
After this you are gig ready - invite all your friends and family along to your gig at the Sooki Lounge Belgrave. The bands who have taken part in the program will each play a set to show off your new rock skills.
We provide everything that is needed, instruments, amps, PA, mics and rehearsal space, of course you are welcome to bring your own instrument if you prefer.
Am I good enough? I'm nervous about joining!
Don't be, the whole aim of this program is to have fun. Everyone who takes part is doing it for exactly the same reason. To enjoy making music with other people.
Who is the coach?
We would like to thank Ronnie Peers who has been the coach for the past three programs. Due to personal reasons, Ronnie has had to stand down as our coach, we have secured the talents of ARIA Hall of Fame inductee, Bob Spencer, member of Australian super groups The Angels and Skyhooks.
How do I get started?
Our next round will be launching in February 26th at KCs Rockshop. Come along and see what it's about, but let us know you are coming first, we will send you some charts for a couple of songs for you to have ready to go at the jam.
For more details contact Paul at the store on 9761 3099.
The welcome jam is obligation free, if you choose to enrol the total cost of the program is $395 and is due at your first rehearsal.
