The Fender JMJ Road Worn Mustang Bass is a signature 4-string electric bass developed in collaboration with acclaimed bassist and producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (JMJ) — a multi-genre musician whose playing credits span Beck, Nine Inch Nails and more, and whose production work includes Jimmy Eat World, Paramore and M83. Modelled closely after JMJ's treasured vintage '66 Mustang Bass, this instrument is presented in Faded Daphne Blue with an authentic Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer finish. It suits bassists of all experience levels who want a short-scale instrument with genuine vintage character, responsive playability and serious studio or stage credentials.

At the heart of this bass is a custom-spec Seymour Duncan split single-coil Mustang Bass pickup, voiced to replicate JMJ's vintage original and delivering a tight, punchy low end with plenty of Fender character. The alder body is finished in Road Worn nitrocellulose lacquer, complete with intentional wear marks — nicks, scratches and aged hardware — that give it the look and feel of a well-travelled instrument. The 30" short-scale maple neck features a comfortable "C" profile and a 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges, aged pearloid dot inlays and 19 medium-jumbo frets. Hipshot® "Lollipop" tuners, a 4-saddle strings-through-body Mustang Bass bridge, a 4-ply white pearloid pickguard and nickel/chrome hardware complete the vintage-inspired appointments. Controls are straightforward: master volume and master tone, both finished in black plastic.

The 30" scale length makes this bass particularly approachable for players transitioning from guitar or those who find full-scale instruments physically demanding, while the rolled fingerboard edges contribute to a smooth, natural feel across the entire neck. The strings-through-body bridge design enhances sustain and intonation stability, making this instrument equally suited to recording and live performance. Includes a Deluxe Gig Bag.

This classic short scale makes it easier to comfortably reach the lower frets while maintaining Fender's punchy bass sound. The 9.5”-radius fingerboard offers enough arc to provide a natural fret-hand feel.
