Description
Maton CW80 80th Anniversary Dreadnought
The Maton CW80 80th Anniversary Dreadnought is a limited-edition acoustic guitar celebrating Maton's 80th year, honouring one of the most historically significant Australian guitars ever produced. Originally introduced in 1967, the CW80 earned its reputation as a reliable, versatile workhorse used in recording studios, on tour, and in everyday playing situations across generations of Australian musicians. This anniversary edition rebuilds the model in its classic timber combination, making it well suited to serious players, collectors, and anyone who wants a piece of Australian guitar-making history paired with modern performance capability.
The guitar features a AAA Engelmann Spruce soundboard paired with Fijian Mahogany back and sides — the same combination used on the "golden era" CW80 from the late 1970s through to the mid-1990s. The neck is crafted from figured Queensland Maple, with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Five-ply rock maple purfling replaces the original plastic binding, and a polished nitrocellulose finish in traditional Maton colours reflects the CW80's golden era from 1978 to 2000. A herringbone rosette completes the vintage-inspired aesthetic. Scalloped Maton X bracing, Jescar FW43080 fretwire, a bone nut and saddle, and chrome Grover Rotomatic machine heads are fitted throughout. The guitar also includes Maton's AP5 PRO onboard pickup system and comes strung with Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze 12–53 strings. A standard Maton hard case is included.
In the dreadnought body format, the CW80 delivers a full, rich low end with strong projection. The Fijian Mahogany back and sides contribute warm, dry midrange character that keeps strummed chords clear and articulate rather than washy, while Maton's current bracing profile adds defined top-end presence. The 25.5" scale length, 12" fretboard radius, and 1.736" nut width provide a comfortable, familiar playing feel. With the AP5 PRO system onboard, the guitar is ready for world stage.
