Yamaha FS9 RX Concert Acoustic-Electric Guitar

The Yamaha FS9 RX is a handcrafted-in-Japan acoustic-electric guitar featuring a concert body shape and the Atmosfeel three-way pickup system. Designed for singer-songwriters and performing musicians, the FS9 RX delivers balanced tone with a sensitive response that enhances subtle and detailed arpeggios, making it particularly well-suited to fingerpicking styles and solo performance.

The FS9 RX is built around an Adirondack spruce top with tapered edges, which provides structural strength while allowing the body to vibrate more efficiently — contributing to both power and sensitivity. The neck uses a combined bolt-on and glued construction that increases body vibration and improves maintainability, with neck and body joints finished and adjusted with high precision. Fingerboard inlays reference traditional Japanese Kumiki woodworking, while the rosette features a rope-shaped inlay rooted in Japanese cultural aesthetic. The guitar's design was developed using cutting-edge acoustic and 3D-structural measurement processes alongside repeated prototyping by skilled luthiers in Yamaha's custom shop.

The Atmosfeel pickup system integrates three transducer types: a piezo sensor in the bridge for low frequencies, a microphone for low and midrange, and a proprietary thin synthetic sheet soundboard transducer for high frequencies. The onboard preamp allows the player to blend microphone sound into the premixed pickup signal — a feature that particularly complements solo performers and chordal players. The bass knob operates as a peaking EQ with a centre frequency that rises when boosting and lowers when attenuating, making it practical for managing low-frequency feedback on stage.
