The Yamaha YPT-380 is a 61-key entry-level portable keyboard suited to first-time players as well as those looking for a capable instrument for home performance and practice. It features a touch-sensitive keyboard action that responds to playing dynamics, allowing beginners to develop expressive technique from the outset. The YPT-380 is well-equipped for self-guided learning, with onboard lesson functions, a broad range of built-in sounds, and convenient USB connectivity.

The keyboard offers 650 built-in Voices covering piano, organ, guitar, bass, strings, saxophone, trumpet, drums, and percussion, including 12 Super Articulation Lite Voices that replicate instrument-specific playing characteristics such as guitar harmonics and distortion. Auto accompaniment is handled by 260 Styles, with the Smart Chord function allowing accompaniment from a single root note and the Auto Chord Play function generating chord progressions automatically. The YPT-380 also includes 125 onboard Songs, 3-step Lesson and Keys to Success practice functions, 26 Harmony types, 152 Arpeggio types, Reverb, Chorus, and 41 DSP effect types. Duo Mode creates two middle-C positions so two players can use the instrument simultaneously.

The YPT-380 connects to a computer via USB for audio and MIDI recording and can function as a USB audio interface. It can also be connected to a smart device for video and audio capture via the Rec'n'Share function. Power is supplied via the included AC adaptor or six AA batteries for portable use. A free downloadable Song Book with musical scores and lesson tips is available from the Yamaha website. The YPT-380 is compatible with optional accessories including a soft carry case (SC-KB630), keyboard stand (L-2C), and sustain pedals.
