Earthquaker Devices Afterneath V3 Enhanced Otherworldly Reverberator

The EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath Enhanced Otherworldly Reverberator is a highly versatile digital reverb pedal built for guitarists, synth players, and experimental musicians seeking expansive, otherworldly soundscapes. Handbuilt in Akron, Ohio, the Afterneath generates its distinctive textures through a swarm of short digital delay lines, capable of producing everything from vast, cavernous reverbs to scattered rhythmic delays with unusual tonal characteristics. It suits players who want deep control over their ambient and reverb effects, from subtle room sounds through to full self-oscillating feedback.

The Afterneath features seven controls: Length (decay time), Diffuse (reverb spread, from sharp early reflections to washy ambience), Dampen (tone shaping from bright to dark), Drag (separates or gathers the individual delay lines, controlling whether the effect behaves more like a reverb or a scattered ping-pong delay), Reflect (feedback/regeneration depth, capable of self-oscillation at higher settings), and Mix (wet/dry blend). The EXP jack on the side allows the Drag parameter to be controlled via expression pedal or CV (0–5V), and a nine-position Mode control determines how the Drag responds — from smooth unquantized sweeps to quantized musical scales including Chromatic, Major (Lydian), Minor, Pentatonic, Octaves & Fifths, and Octaves. The LED changes colour to indicate the active mode. The pedal also incorporates EarthQuaker's Flexi-Switch Technology, enabling both latching and momentary footswitch operation simultaneously.

The Afterneath uses electronic buffered bypass, meaning it requires power to pass signal and the buffer remains active at all times. Users should note that a pop may occur the first time the unit is switched on after power-up. For optimal performance, EarthQuaker recommends a pedal-specific transformer-isolated power supply; daisy chains and switching-type supplies may introduce noise. The recommended expression pedal is the Mission Engineering EQD-1 (50k), though a standard 10k expression pedal will work with a reduced range.

Expression Jack
This is an expression pedal control jack for the Drag. The Afterneath requires an expression pedal with a value of 50k, we recommend the Mission Engineering EQD-1. While it will work with a standard 10k expression pedal, a 50k expression pedal will allow you to access the full range of each mode.

• Tip is the wiper, Ring is 5v and Sleeve is ground.
• You can also use CV with this jack. CV operates 0-5v.

Flexi-Switch® Technology
This device features Flexi-Switch Technology! This electronic switching style allows you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching.

• For standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.
• For momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch, the effect will be bypassed.

The Afterneath uses electronic buffered bypass, it requires power to pass signal and the buffer is always active. You may experience a pop the first time the Afterneath is switched on after power up.

Power
This device takes a standard 9 volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel. We always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. Switching-type power supplies, daisy chains and non-pedal specific power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise. DO NOT RUN AT HIGHER VOLTAGES!
