EarthQuaker Devices Towers Stereo Reverberant Filter

The EarthQuaker Devices Towers Stereo Reverberant Filter is a sophisticated stereo reverb pedal designed for guitarists, bassists and experimental musicians seeking to push their sound into vast, immersive sonic landscapes. Built by hand in Akron, Ohio, Towers combines cathedral-style reverb with a resonant low-pass filter and three distinct modulation modes, making it well suited to ambient, post-rock, shoegaze and experimental players who want deep, evolving textures beyond conventional reverb effects.

At the core of Towers is an array of micro-echoes that feed into a large cathedral-style reverb engine. The Length control shapes decay time and reflection density, while the resonant low-pass filter — reminiscent of vintage synthesiser circuits — intersects the delay and reverb pathways at multiple points for warm, ringy, atmospheric tones. Three filter modes are selectable via a toggle switch: Manual Mode allows direct control of filter frequency across the stereo field with opposing left and right channel movement; Envelope Mode ties filter frequency to picking dynamics for organic, expressive filter sweeps; and LFO Mode hands control to a slow-moving oscillator that sweeps across the stereo field. The Frequency control serves a different function in each mode — frequency adjustment, envelope sensitivity, and LFO rate respectively. The Filter control determines how deeply the resonant filter integrates with the reverb pathways, and the Mix control balances wet and dry signals. Eight user-assignable presets can be stored and recalled via the Preset knob and switch combination.

Towers also features a dedicated Stretch footswitch that halves the processor speed, doubling the reverb length while introducing lo-fi pitch-bending artefacts and frequency smearing — usable as an instant tap effect or a slow, evolving descent into the effect. The pedal supports stereo operation and can be switched between Tails Bypass (reverb tail continues after bypass, indicated by a green LED) and Full Bypass (effect cuts immediately, indicated by a red LED). An EXP jack is provided for expression pedal or CV control. Power is via a standard 9V DC centre-negative supply at 85mA. A lifetime warranty is included.

Tails or Full Bypass Switching
Towers can operate in two different bypass states: Tails or Full Bypass. It comes factory set in Tails Mode which allows the reverb effect to naturally decay after the effect is bypassed and is indicated by a Green Activate LED. Full Bypass will cut the reverb effect completely when the effect is bypassed and is indicated by a Red Activate LED.

Power
This device takes a standard 9-volt DC power supply with a 2.1 mm negative center barrel. We always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. Switching-type power supplies, daisy chains and non-pedal specific power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise. DO NOT RUN AT HIGHER VOLTAGES!
